Snow?? actually salt
No, it is not snowing.....Heading west from Caron, SK along the TCH, we come to 'The Saskatchewan Mining and Mineral's' facility at the town of Chaplin. It's a major salt and mineral operation of natural sodium sulphate. Minerals from Chaplin Lake are dissolved into large evaporation reservoirs, and piled into massive outdoor stockpiles before being refined. The refined products are used globally in detergents, glass-making and livestock feed.

Eventually we head south off the TCH and end up on the 'Red Coat Trail'. The land is expansive in the big skies of Saskatchewan.

Main street of East End
We get to East End and decide to check out a few nic nac shops as there seem to be a lot of them. Chris buys a 'barn lantern' that is actually made in Canada. We saw them on the east coast for upwards of $200. Today $50 lands the lantern in our hands.

Merete, Elly and Mike
The homestead of Mike and Merete and their daughter Elly is so welcoming. These guys are dear friends who used to be our neighbours on Brooklyn Cres. in Calgary.

Even though it has been many years since we have seen these guys we pick up like the old time friends we are :) The rest of the day is spent checking out their yard projects, the barn and garden followed by a wonderful evening of good food, red wine and a warm fire till we are all yawning and need our beds.
The family dog 'Elsa' really likes us...lol
