City of Regina Wascana Trail loop + night in Caron, SASKATCHEWAN (463 km day - 840 kms to go)

Last province before Alberta :)

We depart Brandon, Manitoba at 7:45 am and are to the Saskatchewan border by 9:15 am. Just as we are pulling into the welcome to Saskatchewan rest area, a huge moose pops out of the bush. I thought we were through with these guys!

Prairie Sentinels on way to Regina

Today's plan is to stop in Regina, which is the capital of Saskatchewan. We have never been there before and we have visited the capital city of every other province so this is a must.

Tons of Canada Geese

It was suggested to bike the 'Wascana Tail Loop' as that will cover off some major sites plus the Wascana Lake is a very nice area in the city to see.

Saskatchewan Legislative Grounds

We ride past the 'Saskatchewan Legislative Grounds' completed in 1912, making them 114 years old. Just across the street is the 'Queen Elizabeth Gardens' with a bronze statue of her riding her favourite horse 'Burmese'. The horse was born and bred in Saskatchewan at the RCMP Ranch in Maple Creek, and gifted to the Queen in 1969.

Lake Wascana

The fall colours are very nice and we really enjoy the ride. Very happy we made the effort to stop and see the Capital of Saskatchewan :)

Regina's Central Park

University of Regina

Finally we come to the 'University of Regina' and do our usual poke about. Basic, oldish buildings that are showing their age.

The loop takes us back to our rig and we are on the road 2 hours later to Caron, Saskatchewan.

Pit stop east of Regina

A friend who truly is a stitch in the fabric of our lives resides in Caron. Wayne Boldt was our extra crew member on our two longest sailing passages. First he sailed with us from Ucluelet, BC to San Francisco, USA on our first ever 9 day offshore passage. Two years later he crossed the Atlantic Ocean with us on our 28 day passage from Fort Lauderdale, USA to the Island of Faial in the Azores. The experiences we shared are a bond for life.
