Cliffs of Gaspe Bay

The 'Les Graves' trail out to Cap Gaspe is an 8 km out and back along the shores of Gaspe Bay.

| Soggy wet fox |
Along the hike we meet this soaking wet little fox who looked absolutely exhausted and done with the rain. He wasn't going into the bush to avoid us and we literally pass a meter apart.

| Cap Gaspe Lighthouse |
At the very tip of the peninsula is the 'Cap Gaspe Lighthouse' perched high on a cliff where the Appalachian Mountains meet the Atlantic Ocean. This location is known as the 'End of the Earth' (Land's End) and serves as a key marker for the start or end of the International Appalachian Trail.

| Fog Horns |
When fog shrouds the shore the wail of fog horns help lighthouses pierce the gloom and steer ships to safety. Each lighthouse has a unique 'call' that enables sailors to pinpoint their location in foggy weather. The call of the Gaspe Lighthouse is: A 3 second blast - 3 seconds of silence - A 3 second blast - 51 seconds of silence.

On our way down we see numerous whales and blow spouts out in the water. It's all so rugged and raw out here. Truly a unique place on this earth.
We also come upon this cuddly little guy munching on grass.

| Blanchette Heritage House |
The drive back to our trailer passes by an old heritage house that belonged to Xavier Blanchette and his wife Marie Fournier. Mr. Blanchette was a successful fisherman/farmer who built the house for his family in 1901. It's an important heritage destination with old out buildings and a restored house.

| 1901 Eaton's Catalogue |
This catalogue from 1901 is a replica of the original so we were able to flip through and see all the wares of the day sold by Eaton's.
Back at the trailer we bake a locally made 'Delice de truite et crevettes' - Trout and Shrimp Delight pie. A taste of the Gaspe and all of its freshness :) We bought it yesterday at the lobster market as we had heard about the local seafood pies. A great way to end a day at Cap Gaspe.
