Rainforest hike, Ucluelet Inlet kayak and crabbing plus sunset on Long Beach phone call with Tom & Kathi

We start the day with a short hike through a rainforest. It's a boardwalk through an extremely rugged, boggy and lush forest. We can't imagine how the first explorers who landed on these beaches 100's of years ago made any progress. It would have been rough going.

After we head into Ucluelet. Really nice little town we departed from on our sailing trip back in 2002. We barely recognize anything. 

Last night someone told us people put crab traps out all over in the inlet so we figure we'll give it a try.

Crab trap with chicken as bait ready to go. Chris carries the trap out into the inlet on the stern of his kayak. We lower the trap on a long line and tie off a plastic bottle as our float. With the trap underwater, we kayak about the inlet and have a break on this beach.

Later we return to our crab trap and sadly we only catch one small 4" crab we throw back.

Better luck catching crab next time :) If there is a next time...

Once back at our trailer we have a late dinner and then head down to the beach to watch the sunset and have a phone call with our American friends Tom and Kathi. When we visited them in February, Tom gave us a Malpais Stout we said we'd drink somewhere with them. Tonight is the night...so delicious.
