Made it to Manitoba!!! Riding Mountain National Park - Wasagaming Campground

We wish we had more time here at Duck Mountain Provincial Park, but as we leave Saskatchewan today our take away is there is never enough time. We have to be grateful for what we are seeing and experiencing. Saskatchewan truly is the Land of Living Skies (like their license plate says) and the area we travelled through is filled with wonderful lakes and scenery, heartfelt history, and lasting memories for us.

Oddly there is no 'Welcome to Manitoba" sign...all of a sudden google maps shows we are driving south in Manitoba, the roads are noticeably better and the time changed on our phones one hour ahead. Sheila was hoping to hop back and forth between provinces like the Alberta/Saskatchwan border crossing. Oh well, we have definitely made it to Manitoba.

Highway signs say Manitoba - we have made it

Noticeable improvement in the roads

The landscape is currently very similar to Saskatchewan as we can see a long way. Beautiful views.

Canola, wheat and barley are the common crops

We stop for lunch in the small town of  Grandview as we saw a sign on the highway about their museum and it's collection of early settlement artifacts. Well, it is closed. Will it be opened tomorrow??

The museum opens its doors just as we are pulling away...it will have to be next time as Riding Mountain National Park is now on our radar.

Just down the road is the town of Gilbert Plains with Gilbert the Golfer, a silly little golf ball guy dressed in golf attire but holding a hockey stick. He's on the highway as you drive by so I actually stole this picture since he was so cute and we didn't stop.

We booked here 3 months ago - it's all coming to frution

We set up the RV and decide to pull out our big screened tent in case the mosquitos/bugs are bad. It exceeds our expectations...almost like another room addition to the RV. Chris immediately pulls out the guitar.

Our first addition

After supper we hop on the bikes and head into Wasagaming. It reminds us more of Jasper than Banff. More quaint and small town feel rather than the extreme hustle of Banff. There is a dock/walkway that allows people access to a small island out on a point. We are looking out at Clear Lake and a lady asks if she can take our silhouette picture. We say sure and get her to take it with our camera as well.

The lady on the dock told us to bike down to the marina for the best sunset views. Chris rides toward the dock and sends the birds scrambling to fly away. Love it.

Look closely for the birds Chris scares up at the end of dock

We ride a couple kilometers along the South Clear Lake trail until we see steaming bear scat...opps forgot the bear spray...watch the sunset and get out of here for tonight.

As we head back to our campsite, the lights are just coming on in the little town of Wasagaming. Very cute.

Good night Wasagaming 9:49 pm
