Algonquin Provincial Park - Bike the Old Railway Trail - Kayak Pog Lake

Rails to Trails - Old Railway Trail

Algonquin Provincial Park is all about natural beauty and wilderness. The hiking, biking and boating are plentiful. Today is supposed to be quite warm so we decide to leave hiking until tomorrow when the forecast is cooler. We bike the Old Railway Rails to Trails ride from Pog Lake to Rock Lake and then the other direction to Mew Lake. It's about a 30 km ride with many things to see along the way.

The Old Railway Trail

Rails-to-Trails initiatives in Canada involve converting abandoned railway corridors into multi-use trails. They make for great biking through some spectacular areas.

Bridge jumpers

Along the way to Rock Lake we come upon a bridge where people are jumping off into the water. Great way to keep cool on this warm day.

Blueberry meadow behind us

On the way to Mew Lake we come upon an open meadow filled with wild blueberries. The colors are so nice and the berries taste soooo sweet :)

Just have to keep an eye out for the black bears as they love the berries too.

Wild blue berries

Eating blue berries - so sweet

Early evening kayak on Pog Lake

After biking we head back to the RV for a couple hours down time before heading down to Pog Lake with our kayaks. We are camped in the Pog Lake campground so it's super close to the water.

Late evening swim - so refreshing

We head up a tributary and come to another lake. The temperature is still very nice and the water is like a bathtub so we go for a swim.

Chris - 2 of him :)

On our way back, Chris tries fishing. The water is so calm and makes for great reflection photos.

Lily pads galore

While Chris fishes, I paddle around and take in the shoreline sights and smells. Once back at the beach we left from, we do some more swimming before heading back to our campsite for supper and wine to finish off the day.
