Hearst, Ontario to Dryden, Ontario - Ontario is Huge!! (870 km today leaving 1750 km to go)

Love the Canadian Shield rocks
The weather gods are with us today as this will be the third straight day of sunny skies and zero wind. On the road just after 8 am as we hope to make some serious ground today.

Great road and views

We stop at a couple places we visited on our eastern journey in 2025.

August 1st, 2025 diesel price
Nipigon First Nations gas station had cheap fuel last year at $1.35 a litre...who would have thought we'd be happy to see $2.30 a litre for diesel this year...lol

Terry Fox Memorial
The 'Terry Fox Memorial' just east of Thunder Bay will always be a special place to us. September 1st, 1980, this location is where Terry was forced to stop his cross Canada run to raise awareness for cancer. His own cancer had returned and he passed away June 28th, 1981. A true Canadian Hero.

We visited his 'Mile 0' in both Victoria, BC (May 3rd, 2025) and recently in St. John's, NFLD, plus this memorial on July 29th, 2025.

Canadian Hero

Sleeping giant lying on his back
The 'Sleeping Giant' peninsula within Lake Superior is a striking natural rock formation creating a massive silhouette that resembles a giant human figure lying on its back. We camped and hiked on the peninsula in July of 2025.

Central Time Zone

Next up we cross the 'Central Time Zone' so now we are only 1 hour different than home :)  We stopped here July 28th of 2025.

Walmart parking lot :)

We push onto Dryden, Ontario for the night. Wow, we are making it home.
