Is this our last night on the water?
We leave the campsite in Elliston and take a moment to think about getting close to the end of our trip. Soon the ocean will be behind us and we know we will miss it terribly.

TCH huge rock cut
Other than the Trans Canada Highway (TCH) the roads in Newfoundland are in pretty rough shape. There is construction everywhere as they work at trying to fill the potholes etc but clearly it's a constant battle.

Hollywood-style sign on the cliff
Along the way is the coastal community of 'Dildo', one can't come to Newfoundland and not visit Dildo :)
There is a Hollywood-style 'Dildo' sign as part of comedian 'Jimmy Kimmel' launching a silly campaign to become the honorary mayor of Dildo. Apparently Kimmel sent his side-kick 'Guillermo' to the town for the unveiling of the sign on a huge rocky cliff and he was indeed named the honorary mayor that day :)

Dildo facts
While the exact origin of the name remains a mystery, the name 'Dildo' has been documented as far back as 1711, long before sexual connotations. Prominent theories say it could be nautical gear, botony/shrubs or European roots. Whatever the name, the sun is shining and it's a lovely town.

Dildo harbour
Walking the dock we meet a fisherman and Chris asks him if we can buy a couple cod fish fillets. He says he can't sell them as we may be the fish police, but he puts three large fillets in a bag and after a nice chat he sends us on our way. Very kind.

Craft beers listed on the board - so many to choose from
At the local brewery we share a table with a couple of retired fishers from 'Port de Graves', which is about 30 minutes farther down the coast. We learn a lot about the fishing industry as well as where we will be spending our night tonight. Just down the road from where they live is the 'Green Point Lighthouse' and they say every night there is a camper or two.

Very fresh and flaky cod fillets
We do indeed make it to the 'Green Point Lighthouse' for the night. The road in is a bit sketchy but the fishers we met earlier have guaranteed us we'll be fine with our rig. It's late so we just enjoy our fresh cod fillets given to us by the local fisherman in Dildo.
Thankful for what will definitely be our last night camped on the water in Newfoundland.
