On our way into St. John's, we see the sign for 'Team Gushue Highway'. Being huge curling fans, we have watched this man and his team win countless signature events over the years, including the 2006 Olympics Gold Medal. It is very nice to see this symbol of honour.

We made the reservation at 'Pippy Park' back in March as this will be a good place to explore St. John's from as well as a secure place to leave the trailer for the weekend of Joel and Victoria's wedding, September 12th. It is getting so close now...can't believe it is all coming together :)
We actually came into St. John's a couple days earlier than planned as there is a massive Atlantic storm brewing and we want to get in and settle before the mayhem begins.

Settled before the huge Atlantic storm hits
Around 5 pm we take an Uber into downtown St. John's as we have heard the streets are steep, narrow and unfriendly for big trucks. This way we can have a few beers on 'George Street'. Though it is only two blocks long, it has the highest concentration of pubs and bars per square foot in all of North America. (Impressive - two tops in North America)

Traditional family-run popular pub
We initially head to the 'Newfoundland Embassy Pub' and spend the evening talking with all sorts of friendly people. Val and Bruce from Ontario had just been screeched in, Ian is visiting from Ireland and going to see the Pink Floyd concert tonight. Tiffany Vincent had just completed her cycling adventure across Newfoundland. She was so sweet and full of life with her 'NewfoundNomad Tiff' Facebook go-fund page.

Sheila and Tiffany - pouring rain
After a few hours we decide to head out on George Street to find another pub with music. It is absolutely raining buckets so we don't stay out long and end up in 'Kelly's Pub', a quintessential Irish-Canadian Pub. The music is great and Tiffany has tagged along so...on we go.

By just after 10 pm we are starting to fade after a long day, so we say our good-bye with hugs and catch an Uber home. We hope the rig hasn't floated away :)
