Today we plan to spend the day in Charlottetown (pronounced Char-Low-Town by locals), the capital of PEI. It's only about 45 minutes from where we are staying so it's a convenient day trip.
We park near Victoria Park and use our bikes to get around for the day.

The first place we come to is the Prince Edward Battery consisting of a stone magazine and guns located on the south side of Victoria Park. This landmark overlooks the mouth of the Charlottetown Harbour. The Battery was a necessary component to the defence of the colony.

The Victoria Park waterfront is lovely. The Big Red Numbers were introduced in 2014 by Parks Canada for the 150th anniversary of the Confederation meetings. Every year the digits get updated.

Around 2 pm we pop into the Olde Dublin Pub to watch FIFA - Canada vs Morocco in the round of 16. It is packed and filled with excitement and hope. Sadly we lost 3-0 but the score doesn't match the play. Canada plays excellent but sadly can't convert into a goal. All of Canada is so proud of this team regardless of the outcome. It was a really great run and fun games.

After the game we head out exploring again. Unfortunately the Province House National Historic site is closed for renovations but they have a temporary display at the Confederation Centre of Arts.

Charlottetown is famously known as the 'Birthplace of Confederation" as it was the site of the 1864 meetings that ultimately led to the creation of the Dominion of Canada.
There is so much history in this part of the world it is mind boggling. We learn so much.

The day is finished off with live music at the Beer Garden. We enjoy a craft beer along with mussels and clam strips.
