Kayak the Mersey River and Bike ride Mersey River Trail + Ukme'k Trail - Kejimkujik National Park, Nova Scotia

Kedge Beach

Today we launch our kayaks at Kedge Beach and after a short paddle on Kejimkujik Lake, we enter the Mersey River.

Mersey River

It's a peaceful, meandering waterway with gentle currents for a perfect 'out and back' trip.

Water lilies

We paddle through various narrow channels, under overhanging red maple trees and past water lilies.

Two turtles catching sun on a log

We come across a couple turtles sunning themselves on a log. One jumps into the water and then there was one :)

One turtle jumps in and then there was one :)

Mersey River bike trail

After a quick lunch we hop on our bikes and ride the Mersey River Trail, which is largely running beside where we just kayaked.

Oasis Pods

Along the trail are these red, teardrop-shaped pod things we discover are called 'Oasis Pods'. They sit elevated on stilts among the trees for a unique glamping experience :)

Bike trails of Kejimkujik National Park

Eventually we join the Ukme'k Trail (meaning 'twisted' in Mi'kmaq) for a more technical ride through the Acadian forest. An all-in-all fantastic ride.

After our kayak and bike ride, I head down to the beach again for a swim while Chris watches FIFA.
