Bike Cheticamp Island to Enragee Point Lighthouse + Kayak the Cheticamp River to swim & see Bald Eagles - Cape Breton, Nova Scotia

St. Peter's Church in Cheticamp
We drive to Cheticamp Island and unload our bikes just past the gravel causeway onto the island. It's an easy 14km ride out and back to the Enragee Point Lighthouse.

Enragee Point Lighthouse

Cheticamp Island has a community pasture on it for local farmers to turn loose their cattle for the summer grazing. We see many out grazing but these two know how to beat the heat in the shade.

Cows in the lighthouse shade :)

Cormorants drying their wings

The Cormorant birds are drying their wings on what appears to be their own little islands and a curious seal bobs its head up and down every few minutes and has a long look at us.

Cheticamp River
Next we head to Petite Etang beach for a late picnic lunch and then we launch the kayaks and head up the Cheticamp River. It's the same river we swam in yesterday near our campsite, but this part of the river is downstream where it enters the Gulf of St. Lawrence.

We paddle a few kilometres upstream until the water is just too low and we are scraping. On the way back to our launch point, we stop for another cool down swim.

Just when we think kayaking can't get any better, an outing like this happens and we are once again left in awe of the beauty of Canada.

Bald Eagle

On our return paddle we see a Bald Eagle on a log just a short way from us. We quietly paddle nearer and about 20 meters from him he sets flight. Very cool.

Back at camp just before supper and the rest of the night is taking it easy. Busy last few days.
