Getting ready to roll to the water
Our day starts with a morning kayak in 'Notre Dame Bay' right out of our campsite. The Bay is filled with hundreds of small islands and the park warden yesterday told us to head to the right so we do.
Chris uses google maps to find us a route that will go around a couple islands and come back through a channel. The tide is dropping so one little passage we go through initially, we have to get out and pull the kayaks as we pass through again, once around an island.

After lunch we head into Twillingate to do the 'French Beach/Spillers Cove' hike the park warden also told us about. He says it's the most jaw-dropping hike in the area.

Our hike today is part of the 'Rockcut Twillingate Trail' system. We park at 'Blow Me Down Lane' and wonder just how strong the winds can get in this place? Today it is beautiful blue sky and calm winds so we will never know.

Stay back from the edge-sheer drops
We head across a rolling coastal headland and then drop down onto French Beach before the rugged coastal cliffs, sea stacks and panoramic Atlantic ocean views begin. This absolutely comes up there are one of the most scenic hikes we have ever done...and we have done a lot of hiking over the years.

Yum...blueberries have always been a favorite
The end of the hike takes us through a couple bogs and thankfully more blueberry patches. It is hard to fathom the berries that must go to waste out here. Likely some get picked by passing hikers and birds but the bushes are loaded with them. Such a great hiking treat.

Long Point Lighthouse
After we finish the hike at 'French Head', we drive over to the cliffs of 'Devil's Head' in Crow Head, just outside Twillingate.
Perched 300 feet above the ocean sits the 1876 'Long Point Lighthouse', which features a unique shape, often called a 'milk bottle' design.

Live music on Twillingate Harbour
We are pretty exhausted after a 7/7....7km kayak/7km hike so we treat ourselves to some live music and a craft beer sitting right on the Twillingate Harbour.
